Our team was happy to be invited at the biggest film festival in Romania. Transylvania Film Festival 2016 started in Cluj, on May 27th, and scored a visible success. The 15th edition of TIFF was held in 20 locations, bringing together nearly 250 productions, of which 216 feature films and 32 short films from 64 countries. The festival ended spectacularly on June 5th with a record of over 79,000 paid tickets in cinemas, with 9% more than last year.
The total number of participants was bigger than 120,000. 1,100 of them were directors, producers, actors, industry professionals, Romanian and foreign journalists. The participants were able to enjoy the numerous film screenings and the impressive events that were sold out. Among them there were the Romanian premieres of Sieranevada, by Cristi Puiu, Două lozuri, by Paul Negoescu, and Câinii, directed by Bogdan Mirică. The last one was the winner of The Transylvania Trophy and received two additional film screenings on the last day, both sold out in a very short time. Other appreciated movies at TIFF were the world premiere of Nae Caranfil`s latest film, 6.9 pe scara Richter, which opened the festival in Piata Unirii, Căsătorie în stil Italian, which has been created in honor of Sophia Loren, the cine-concerts Patimile Ioanei d’Arc and Haxan, and, also, the closing gala on June 4th.
The 15th edition of TIFF involved a significant event marked by a special semifinal: the MasterCard`s 10th anniversary as one of the main sponsors of the festival. Being present for 10 years on TIFF`s stage, MasterCard supports the cinema industry and provides innovative payment solutions for all the people attending the festival, for a Priceless™ experience. To celebrate this special moment, the main partner of TIFF has organized the annually remarkable party to celebrate the opening of the Romanian Film Days. The highlight of the evening was the concert offered to all the TIFF guests by Carla`s Dreams. Stars such as Andreea Ibacka, Cabral, Amalia Enache or Diana Cavallioti enjoyed the songs of one of the most popular bands in Romania, along with more than 53,000 fans who could hear the concert live on MasterCard’s official Facebook page. MasterCard offered many daily prizes to all the spectators who paid with MasterCard or Maestro cards during the festival at the TIFF`s box offices, TIFF House and TIFF Shop or on www.biletmaster.ro and in TIFF’s application. Also, this year, MasterCard offered The Audience Award that was won by La Puerta Abierta (Open Door), directed by Marina Seresesky.
The festival organized by the Romanian Film Promotion Association for Transylvania Film Festival, in partnership with MasterCard and other important sponsors recorded a success that can is easily visible in the number of people physically present in Cluj and online on the website www.tiff.ro and also on the official Facebook page. As a testimonial for these notable numbers are the positive reactions of the public that was impressed by the activities held during the festival.
